The refreshing newness of spring 2019 will be upon us very soon, and style and sun protection come together in a favorite accessory of many: the hat. The spring/ summer 2019 hat trends are about more than just sun protection and general coverage. This is the season for the resurgence of the favorite trends. Veils and statement-making hats from previous seasons are reimagined and shown for those dreaming of their future fashions.
The spring/ summer 2019 hats are made of lighter materials and a more lively array of colors, prints, and patterns. Fortunately, some of the most well-liked hat trends from fall are standing strong on the upcoming spring 2019 headwear trends lists.
Like the ‘90s-reminiscent bucket hats and wide brim fedoras on the list, each of the fashions can be worn in more than one way and happen to be the epitome of an easy-to-style functional yet fashionable accessory. Dolce & Gabbana really stepped out in the spotlight as usual to showcase an option that fit with the styles that match up with the spring 2019 hats on the trend list.
#1. Veiled Hats
Veils have steadily been gaining ground under the limelight for the last few fashionable seasons. The spring/ summer 2019 hat trends will allow those who wish to celebrate the renewal of spring with a nod of drama in several different styles. Pillboxes and even fascinators made an appearance with the true unifier of these incredible chapeaus providing the wink of drama that only a veil can create.
On nearly any hat a veil adds a bit of alluring eye appeal but for a long time it was considered to be “just a bit much.” Fortunately, at present the show-stopping artistry usually reserved for the most elaborate of funeral scenes is now an everyday accessory and in an appreciable bevy of colors.
The veils on the Rodarte runway were lightly romantic in softer pastels paired with flowers that were seen cascading down on the models. Simone Rocha took us on a buzzing turn with a string of wide-brimmed hats with a veil overlay in several colors, the most notable of which was a contrasting play on a black and white trim.
Erdem, Celine, and Marc Jacobs all gave several nods to the veil on a different style of hat, each one as interesting as they were different from the last. Another crowd favorite was the diamond veil bearing boater hat presented by Marc Jacobs.
#2. Beekeepers
The most unexpected of the spring/ summer 2019 hat trends is the beekeeper style, which actually is the more dramatic version of the previous hat trend, meant for all those that want to wow at elegant soirées.
Simone Rocha took the beekeeper style hat and ran rampant with stunning colors and designs created within the lace. The above-mentioned was only one of the favorites of the beekeeper hats showcased on the Simone Rocha runway. Other printed and more vibrantly colored options were shown on the same runway, but the beekeeper style hat also showed up on the Erdem runway as well.
#3. Dad Hats and Visors
Much like dad sneakers are the hottest spring 2019 shoe trend, we also see the comeback of dad caps for the fans of sporty, athleisure style. The dad hat has been renewed wth interesting ideas and materials for the spring/ summer 2019 hat trends.
Chanel has a straw version that took everyone by surprise. Jeremy Scott also showed a colorful yet reworked attempt at the dad hat. Emporio Armani showed a branded and beaded version of the dad cap as well for anyone looking for brightly colored, on-trend comfort in their hat choices for the upcoming season.
#4. Bucket Hats
Sonia Rykiel, Etro and even Dolce & Gabbana gave us all new takes on the bucket hat, a style which has made a clear resurgence since nearly disappearing altogether post ‘90s era fashion. Now, the style is exactly what we want again, this time infused with new colors, and patterns without affecting the key characteristics we all loved from two decades ago.
One of the top runway picks for the bucket hats for spring 2019 was Dolce & Gabbana’s well embellished look, and another one comes from Sportmax. The Sportmax spring 2019 collection showed off protection from the elements designed to be bright, visible and hard to lose, with a strap that will allow for confident wear.
#5. Knit Hats
Although you’ll hardly wear knit hats in summer, the spring/ summer 2019 hat trends still feature a couple of cute knit hat styles for the chilly transitional spring days when you want to look on trend and cozy at the same time.
Etro’s energetically patterned knit berets have firmly earned a place on the spring/ summer 2019 hat trends list – they have the perfect amount of material to be worn exactly the way you want your beret to sit, with a look that isn’t too dark or heavy for spring and summer wear. Michael Kors showed several different crocheted hats that ranged in shape and style from multicolored bucket hats to surprising embellished vintage style caps.
#6. Boater Hats
Of the boater hats that showed on the various runways, a favorite that hit on multiple spring/ summer 2019 hat trends checklists was the silvery white veiled boater hat shown by Marc Jacobs. Metallic boaters with different veils showed off multiple angles of these incredibly trendy hats.
Saint Laurent showed off boater hats in a way they are not often worn. Typical wear shows the hat sitting directly on top of the head, though Saint Laurent showed them with the hat tiled back, keeping it from obstructing the model’s face in any way.
#7. Wide Brim Hats
Wide brim hats seem to make the upcoming trend list for hats and accessories for nearly every season. This shouldn’t be surprising, as they are flattering, easy to wear and style and comfortable.
On the Saint Laurent runway, these spring 2019 hats adorned the models in vibrant shades paired with additional headbands. Bright red was the most eye-catching while Valentino’s wide brim hats went from extremely oversized to light and yet still capable of providing a good amount of portable shade.
Maison Margiela actually offers several wide brim options to choose from as well but the real feather in the cap of the wide brim hat option goes to Dolce & Gabbana who showed several chic choices on the runway.
#8. Floppy Hats
While floppy hats seem to have a lot in common with wide brim hats, the difference is the flexibility of the brim. A good floppy hat is manipulatable for the right amount visibility when needed – perfect for that ideal photo.
Giorgio Armani showed a pastel wide brim floppy hat that caught a lot of attention for this reason. Etro’s runway was full of interesting spring/ summer 2019 hats, and their patterned wide brim floppy also caught quite a few eyes. Michael Kors also unabashedly showed patterned floppy hats for the season.
#9. Pincushion Hats
As a style of hat that has not been seen in a popular light for numerous decades, the imaginative recreations of the pincushion hat by Jeremy Scott for Moschino are nothing short of a dream come to life. The sketchy and cartoon styles that adorned these spring/ summer 2019 hats were captivating, new and fresh as expected from a trendsetting summer accessory.
The center of the hat was raised just enough for a broad ribbon to be wrapped around it in a complementary style. One covered in artistic strawberries was a light and refreshing entry into spring patterns.
#10. Statement Summer Hats
Some summer 2019 hats are designed to be more than just a protective garment, but a piece that pulls the eye and makes an ensemble. These are the statement hats, and while they certainly fit under the moniker of another type of spring 2019 hat trend, it almost seems to diminish the grandness of each spectacularly designed headpiece individually.
Moschino made the spring/ summer 2019 hat trend list again with two incredible statement hat creations. One is a hat designed to look like a large pincushion with oversized pins sticking out. The other statement Moschino hat Scott created was a jauntily placed golden hat designed to look like a thimble on slicked back hair, which glinted and made a statement all its own.
Valentino presented oversized hats for summer 2019 that looked to be made from the love child of hay, straw and feathers. Even Louis Vuitton showed off statement pieces for the upcoming season with a very interesting shape that many will be considering.
Not all statement hats are oversized though – Dolce & Gabbana sent a top hat down the runway along with one of the most vibrant wide brimmed designs seen on any of the spring/ summer 2019 hat trends.
#11. Straw Hats
Straw hats are as such a staple of spring and summer fashion as florals are. Though it was interesting to see where the designers have pulled their inspiration from for the upcoming year, several of the straw and straw-like spring 2019 hats that caught our attention have been around and loved for a while.
Valentino and Chanel showed off two very different iterations of the classic and the exaggerated straw hats with Chanel also incorporating a new style into the fold. There was even a straw deer-hunter!
A good portion of the hats including the pincushion hats and boater hats, appeared to be straw hats making them a perfectly light accessory for wear during the warmer and brighter weather months. Dolce & Gabbana took the straw hat to the next level but made sure they were incorporated into the fold as well.
#12. Pillbox Hats
The pillbox hat has been around for a while, and Moschino’s sparkling set of pillbox hats were a great addition to the upcoming spring/ summer 2019 hat trends. The “sparkle” of the design was not overpowering, just enough to perfectly top an outfit and set off a look. These were of a modified style than the normal pillbox, held on with a thin headband and tilted just so on the crown of the head.
#13. Helmets and Swim Caps
Maison Margiela showed several pieces of headgear that can most easily be likened to leather helmets, something a fashion-forward individual channeling Amelia Earhart would don. In patent leather and other options, this was a style of hat that made an impact on the spring/ summer 2019 hat trends list.
A layered leather swim cap in black and white was also seen on the Mary Katrantzou runway. Each alternating layer featured a scalloped edge that created the striking pattern that followed along the strap. The Mary Katrantzou runway also featured a textured, see-through bonnet style cap as well.
#14. Headscarves and Turbans
The easiest and most effortless style of the spring/ summer 2019 hat trends? Wrapping your head with a scarf complementing your look and adding drama at the same time! These are just another way to provide a fashion-forward individual with depth and color to reinvigorate their spring wardrobe.
J.W. Anderson debuted a gold jewelry-embellished black leather scarf on the runway. Max Mara showed calligraphy embellished and brightly colored scarves tied differently allowing for a lot of variation in who could wear the scarves.
Missoni showed interestingly turban tied headscarves with a range of looser waffle knits in a set of patterns that are only exceeded by the vibrancy of Etro’s brightly patterned scarves. Not to be outdone, Versace, Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs also showed off scarves that could be worn in a multitude of ways.
#15. Berets
Romantic French berets still hold firm among the spring/ summer 2019 hat trends, and we are so happy about that! Nothing can help you achieve that covetable French style more easily than a simple beret, so make sure to get one if you still don’t have it in your accessory drawer.
Berets looked ultra-romantic and slightly oversized at John Galliano, kind of military-influenced and sober at Dior, and ultra-colorful and cheerful at Etro. In any case, berets are it-hats that will still rock on the social media and in the streets come spring!

Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #2: Boater Hats
Ideal for wearing to a picnic or for a summer stroll, pretty boater hats form the next enchanting headwear trend for spring 2015. Since many public school uniforms include a boater hat and the Olympia Le Tan SS 2015 line was all about school girl style, we saw some lovely boater hats during the brand’s fashion show, where cute boater hats were worn with some altered positions and featured the traditional creamy shade. In line with such traditional straw boater hats, we also some innovative shades and materials, like in case of Agnes B., where the straw hat came in a black tone, while Saint Laurent presented colorful options with slight masculine notes.

Floppy hats are the best headwear options you can go for to build up beautiful, feminine bohemian looks. Moreover, these hats are versatile enough to be sported both to the street and to the beach, which is why many designers gave preference to floppy hats for styling their summer outfit creations. We especially love the stylish seventies mood of the floppy hats we saw at Paul & Joe, where besides the monochrome brown or navy blue floppy hats, we also saw lovely printed options. On the other hand, Rebecca Minkoff stunned with the oversized floppy hats coming in a variety of shades, from nude to bright. J.W. Anderson and Koonhor decided to add an edgy and powerful spin to oversized floppy hats, playing in the zone of textures, including black leather and some see-through touches.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #4: All Forms of Caps
Caps form the next spectacular and quite noteworthy spring/ summer 2015 headwear trend we would like to speak about, especially concentrating on the altered and renovated vibes that many of them this time present. The texture and the material are also diverse, encompassing details from different styles, different combos and different ideological grounds. For instance, we may speak about the police-inspired caps from Tommy Hilfiger, in case of which leather was matched with shimmery textures. Manish Arora dazzled with the totally new shapes of the colorful and cute pink with yellow caps adorned with lavish jewelry details. Olympia Le Tan unveiled slightly oversized and differently colored school caps featuring such design details as tassels of golden shade, while Moschino opted for the traditional baseball cap in the iconic pink shade embellished with metallic letters. Unconventional caps could be seen at Akris and Jean Paul Gaultier, while Polo Ralph Lauren stayed true to the classic and causal mixture of styles all put on the background of white tones. Mara Hoffman and Kate Spade brought forth the sporty-inspired and colorful options.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #5: Masculine Inspired Hats
Masculine inspiration is the following noteworthy vibe that we would like to note here, especially concentrating on the curious ways of combining the classic forms of hats with the tough attitude and the tough style, creating absolutely unique and awesome silhouettes. Thus for inspiration you may have a look at the suggestions from Saint Laurent, in case of which we saw the mysterious and creative classics of black boater hats turning the models into Mafiosi and adding a really spectacular hue to the looks. Mara Hoffman decided to add a summery and feminine spin to the classic fedora hat, presenting the slightly elongated nude straw fedora hats, while Tibi mixed Asian and South African motifs with the traditional top hat, coming up with the elongated handmade dip-dyed designs. Margaret Howell feminized the iconic bowler hat, making it look so timeless and classy in the black shade.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #6: Wide-Brim Sun Hats
Wide brim sun hats can’t but be in the list of the best spring/ summer 2015 hat trends, since they are the ideal options to protect you from the sun rays, while making you look utterly feminine and elegant. Quite spectacular and noteworthy were the oversized and extremely protective wide-brim sun hats from Chalayan, the floppy-inspired options from Karen Walker coming with the combination of scarfs wrapped around the head and the neck, and the wide-brim hats from Tess Giberson and Agnes B.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #7: Rain Hats
Casual chic rain hats comes to make those rare rainy summer days brighter and more fashionable for you, however, you are sure to love this trend so much as to wear such hats on a daily basis. Consider the girly droopy rain hats of Max Mara featuring various shades and patterns, and if you want to add a subtle masculine vibe to your look, you can go for the safari rain hats of Ralph Lauren.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #8: Cavalier and Pirate Hats
Coming to pieces in case of which the renovation and comeback of vintage and classy vibes are taken to even high proportions, we simply can’t but note the uber luxurious and glamorous cavalier hats coming with a range of contemporary details and vibes. For instance, you can check out the exclusive cowboy inspired cavalier hats from Jean Paul Gaultier, which immediately take us to the era of the Three Musketeers, as well as those from Agnes B. Creative are also the absolutely stunning yet at the same time absolutely unexpectedly good-looking pirate-type hats from Vivienne Westwood Red Label, each of which comes with something unique and special grounded by the peculiarities that the era they represent brings with them thus marking the stylish comeback of a number of forgotten yet really tryworthy vibes and styles, which deserve to be taken to our modern looks.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #9: Knitted Hats
Knitted hats and beanies are the next accessorizing details in our list we can’t but speak about, noting such details as comfort and youthfulness accompanying each and every piece from this list. As you might have guessed, the color variations are diverse and really creative too, suggesting trying both bright and muted, calmer tones, completing the images they come in perfectly. Thus, we may note the beanie-type alternatives from Blugirl and Devastee suggesting the classic and comfortable combination of the messily styled straight hair with shades like gray and black. Agnes B. came up with the experimental multiply folded alternatives, Polo Ralph Lauren with the sporty and comfortable silhouettes, while warm and colorful were the knitted hats from Kate Spade.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #10: Turbans and Headscarves
From turbans to bandanas and scarfs, the following spring 2015 headwear trend really manages to take its important position in the range of stylish fashion accessories, capable of totally transforming your looks. The stylish inclinations range from retro to neomodern and ethnic-inspired and may introduce such examples as the kerchiefs from Bibhu Mohapatra, the bandana-type pieces from Derek Lam, the totally curious and creative turbans from Missoni designed with identical patterns and prints as the garments they come matched with, as well as the net-like kerchiefs from Emanuel Ungaro, with the mysterious Arabic inspired turbans from Saint Laurent and others. No less creative are the options presented by Nicholas K with the easy-going yet enigmatic and intense combo of the bronze kerchiefs with the identically shaded eye makeup, Moschino with the simplified and iconic shawl-like pieces and Chalayan, where headscarves were attached to futuristic sunglasses.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #11: Unusual and Strange Hats
No matter how hard we tried to fit these pieces into one of the headwear categories we spoke about earlier, there was no exact option that appeared to be suitable for the pieces we are going to present now. Weird is probably the best keyword for describing the range of the unusual hats included here. Thus we are speaking about the ultra-innovative or maybe ultra-crazy interpretations from Vivienne Westwood, who didn’t just take something old or traditional, but did something beyond the human imagination turning baskets into hats! So yes, what else if not a reversed basket with some exquisite floral accessories may become a hat for matching the experimental and modern pieces? Adorning them with a range of details like bows, flowers, feathery elements and completing all with the unnaturally heavy and bright makeup, the designer managed to create some quite unusual looks to put it mildly.
Coming to other “calmer” alternatives we may also speak about the interesting wooden hats from John Galliano presenting these pieces as the key designs for the contrast with the rest of the garments. In addition, we should mention the deconstructed forms of wide-brim hats from Issey Miyake coming with all-white silhouettes and a diversity of layers, overlapping parts and hints of the classic shapes, the golden helmets from Cynthia Rowley, the Japanese hats from KTZ, the layered designs from Koonhor, the absolutely sick hats from Thom Brown, as well as the elongated and oversized hats from Donna Karan.
Spring/ Summer 2015 Headwear Trend #12: Regal Crowns and Fascinators
Opulent crowns and fascinators worked out in a myriad of ways, from florals and jewels to fluffy details, come to make your important events of the new season unbelievably glamorous and chic. Regal crowns, as expected, were the jaw-dropping headwear pieces completing the looks of the newest Dolce & Gabbana designs, while Emanuel Ungaro used plastic floral-shaped fascinators to add drama to the overall scene. Manish Arora turned to highly bejeweled headwear pieces, and in case of Desigual (which is one of the first fashion houses we think of when hearing colors) it were the bohemian floral crowns adorning the heads of the models and matching the colorful pieces.
The big diversity of the spring/ summer 2015 headwear trends will hardly leave anyone indifferent towards headpieces, even those always shying away from hats. What you may do now is just pick the right hats and headwear pieces that are affordable and suitable for you, thus adding some peculiar and cute complementing details to your summer looks. Here you have great pieces for lying in the sun on the beach, for hanging around with friends, or for just attending some important events. The trick is being able to feel the style inclination of each piece and to match it correctly with the rest of the garments

Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Headwear Trend #1: Fur Hats
Fur hats are one of the primary and most noteworthy options we would like to talk about. It’s luxurious, comfy, warm, and just feminine, so why don’t you give it a try? This was the question that got a “yes” answer in case of Badgley Mischka, Rebecca Minkoff, and Crosby Derek Lam collections, which came up with significantly voluminous and impressive solutions for the fur hats also having some retro touches inspired by the ‘60s looks.
In addition, the interesting forms and shade solutions presented by Missoni are also worth mentioning, especially taking into account the bright and burning tones of orange and yellow. The karakul types are really popular for such looks. As for shows like Lanvin fall/ winter 2014-2015, furry details were used to synthesize some no traditionally cold season looks into such, which absolutely fitted into the season. Thus they created some cool brim hats with the help of adding some fur accents around it, lavishly volumizing the whole look.
The options suggested by Daks and Dsquared2 are also worth mentioning. What is especially curious in case of the hats by Daks is the ideal identical match of those black high hats with the bearskin the royal guards of Her Majesty traditionally wear.
Turning fur into detail for hoodies, Fendi and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi created some very suitable and cool fear-not-the-cold looks. Similar pieces with much greater proportions of femininity and charm have been introduced by Dolce & Gabbana.
Another super significant interpretation with fur is the huge diversity of the earflap hats presented by fashion houses like Preen and Moncler Gamme Rouge. The top classic and chic variants were introduced by Jean Charles de Castelbajac illustrated with a big variety of shades. The elegant and graceful options by Simonetta Ravizza are also worth being in our list.
Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Headwear Trend #2: Knitted Hats
Knitted hats never get off the runways for fall/winter seasons (Check out: How to Wear a Beanie). For the coming season they are again having a moment, coming with a big diversity of looks, types, and interpretations and just different color solutions possible. Being comfortably laid on the head and looking comfy and chic, they really have their place in the fave list of ladies and fashion designers. Thus, talking about the basic shapes and looks we can note the stripy patterns suggested by Hunter Original first of all. In addition, we can also speak about the high types presented by Public School and being especially suitable for the ladies having a round face shape.
For those with an oval shape of the face, any type of knitted hats may do, like the berets by John Galliano or the beanies by Giles. Tak.Ori is another fashion house, which is really popular with the diverse options of knitted hats. The triangle forms adorned with leopard prints are one of the most noteworthy options of this type. The cute beanies suggested by Polo Ralph Lauren are another nice option to try out. Tommy Hilfiger, Moschino, and Maison Rabih Kayrouz are also included among the best options.
Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Headwear Trend #3: Berets
Berets form the following noteworthy fashion trend for the coming season. This is a universal option for all women with any face shape and height. It also has the touch of French elegance and charm, which makes the looks with berets especially chic and glam. Thus, the options suggested by Badgley Mischka, John Galliano, Ralph Lauren are some of the basic berets you can look through. As for the totally eye-catching variants, Rodarte aces that, presenting a whole conglomeration of glittery berets taken with any shade you can imagine.
Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Headwear Trend #4: Caps
The following interesting trend for headwear is that of the caps, which can again be found with various shapes and styles. This option is especially suitable for those ladies, who give their preference to sporty and casual style. And since they are meant for colder season, they need to be warm, too. Thus, fashion houses like A. F. Vandevorst came up with really curious variants of caps with an ideally rounded top part, the cap going below the eyebrow line. The sporty looks by DKNY are also worth mentioning, coming with prints like the logo of New York. Dsquared2 came up with some brighter alternatives made of snakeskin, while Custo Barcelona accentuated the top in blinding and catchy tones possible.
For even classier options you can look through the styles suggested by Samuji, in case of which we have some jockey-inspired options with extra warming layers underneath. As for the pieces by Moncler Gamme Rouge, here we have some more feminine and cuter variants, which may also be useful for your picks.
Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Headwear Trend #5: Classic Hats
The classic forms of the hats do not miss out of the shows, either. Just the contrary! The wonderful diversity of the options we encounter during various fashion shows really charms and impresses us. So we can speak about the oversized bowler hats suggested by Emporio Armani and A Détacher, as well as the alternatives inspired by the Western cowboy style introduced by Cushnie et Ochs and Lanvin. In addition, we can speak about the Amish hats of Tibi, the cloche hats of Dsquared2 and Badgley Mischka, the fedora hats of Ralph Lauren and Saint Laurent, as well as the super classy variants found in the collections of Christian Siriano, Donna Karan and Public School. The extravaganza suggested by Donna Karan, for instance, was ideally matched with feathery details.
In any case, picking the hat according to your body and face type is the key to the successful looks. You can thus go for options like the ones suggested by Barbara Cassasola and Cushnie et Ochs if you are not tall, since these hats do not have too elongated and wide brims and the looks like the wide-brim options suggested by Lanvin should be excluded from your list. The exaggerated forms of the brims form the key looks of Concept Korea collection.
Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Headwear Trend #6: Pom-Pom Hats
Pom-pom hats have always been the most playful and cute alternatives for hats. Thus coming as a separate trend for the season, they again manage to hold their positions, coming as the key details for the collections of Tommy Hilfiger, Acne Studios and Hunter Original.
Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Headwear Trend #7: Snoods, Chadors & Kerchiefs
The last but not least fashion trend we would like to talk about is the inclination towards headwear pieces like snoods, chadors and kerchiefs. It’s noteworthy that snoods were the primary forms of such options that emerged since last season. This time, however, they also inspired the designers to come up with the chadors like the alternatives we noted during the Dolce & Gabbana show. The luxurious details like jewels and beads nicely completed the images created with chadors. As for the kerchiefs, the bright animal-inspired prints were the main options that we could see the kerchiefs with.
Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Headwear Trend #8: Fez-Like Hats
One more curious trend we noted among many collections was the fez-like shape of hats, the designers picked for their collections. The specific fez-shaped hats (of course, coming without the tassel) were quite noteworthy for collections like Tia Cibani, Creatures of Comfort, John Galliano and Carolina Herrera.
Thus, here were the basic fall/ winter 2014-2015 headwear trends that we observed during the fashion shows for the coming cold season. So go on following the world fashion trends with us and be the stylish and cool lady all around!
